What is the TLC?
The TLC is a resource center equipped with technology for faculty and staff use. The Center offers employees 1:1 or group training in productivity suites, enterprise applications, and instructional technologies. Employee training helps to achieve individual goals, from learning minimum technology skill set to a variety of enterprise system training.

NOTE: Enroll in classes in the Employee Learn Center (ELC). Use the course codes (listed next to each title below) to search for a session in the ELC and register. There is no need to register for an Open Lab.
Canvas is the only Learning Management System (LMS) used at Scottsdale Community College and all Maricopa Colleges (with the exception of Rio Salado College). Listed below are some of the training sessions that are available.

These tools assist in assessing student knowledge and/or student readiness for hybrid and online courses.
Respondus is a powerful tool for creating and managing exams that can be printed to paper for classroom distribution or published directly to Canvas. Exams and tests can be created offline using a familiar Windows environment (like Word) and then uploaded into Canvas. Many textbook publishers have testbanks available through Respondus. SmarterMeasure is a free, web-based survey tool that provides feedback on student readiness for online course delivery. Students are assessed in the following areas: Personal Attributes, Learning Styles, Reading Comprehension, Technical Competency, Technical Knowledge, and Typing Speed & Accuracy. The survey takes 10-15 minutes to complete and gives instant results. The survey is not designed to exclude students from courses, but to provide valuable feedback for the student in regards to their strengths and weaknesses related to online learning. There tools help in building instructional content, which can be integrated into a Canvas course or elsewhere on the web.
Softchalk LessonBuilder is a powerful authoring tool that lets you build interactive, web-based activities that can be posted on an ordinary website or in Canvas. Please be aware that Maricopa funding of Softchalk stopped in late 2011. It can still be used through mySCC, but it is an older version of the software. Studymate is an easy authoring tool (created by Respondus) that lets you create ten Flash-based activities and interactive games using four simple templates. This study aid is good for student self-practice and exam preparation, and the Flash activities can be published directly to your Canvas courses or even to an iPod or other portable devices. Turnitin is an online resource (www.turnitin.com) for educators and students concerned with developing quality writing and research skills by:
- Providing a reliable, efficient, and powerful deterrent to digital plagiarism
- Hosting an online interface for convenient and innovative peer-to-peer review
- Allowing for online grading with full contextual markup, use of rubrics, and quickmarks
- Providing instructors the ability to aggregate student works into digital portfolios
SCC Class Roster Tool
The SCC class roster tool goes beyond what SIS class roster gives you. In addition to viewing, printing, and exporting your roster, you can go here to:
- Find student’s ID, phone and address or send email
- Fill out an early alert on student
- Upload your professional photo, biography, and class syllabi
- Enter your office hours and upload file attachments
Several tools are available for recording the movements of your computer screen and saving it as a video file for playback by your students. You can record your voice at the same time and/or add “call-outs” (or labels) to the video.
Jing is a free tool to create voice-narrated videos that capture movements on your screen as you talk. You can create up to five minutes of video. Use it yourself to create short tutorials for students on key concepts related to your discipline, or even have students use it for class projects or class introductions.
